UPDATE as of 3:34 p.m. 6/29: Verizon has reported to the East Central Dispatch Center (ECDC) that the mentioned issue with calling 911 has been resolved. ECDC personnel will continue to monitor and report any additional issues.

The City’s provider of emergency dispatch services, East Central Dispatch Center, has informed the City that Verizon cellular customers have been experiencing difficulty connecting with dispatch when calling 911. If you are a Verizon Cellular customer and you call 911, you may hear a squealing noise when the call is answered. When this happens, please hang up; 911 dispatchers will attempt to call you back immediately to find out the nature of the emergency. The issue is also impacting other area dispatch centers and Verizon is working to resolve the situation. The public’s safety is of utmost importance. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
