City of Clayton – Park and Recreation Month

City of Clayton – Park and Recreation Month
0Comments

As we close out #PrideMonth and move into #ParkandRecreationMonth, we felt it was the perfect time to showcase all the beautiful colors our city offers throughout our parks and remind our LGBTQ+ community that pride is all around us!

The LGBTQ+ pride movement began with the historic Stonewall Uprising, which occurred 53 years ago in Manhattan over a six-day period from June 28-July 3, 1969 when police raided a gay bar, the Stonewall Inn. Although this was not the first time a gay bar was raided nor was it the first time the LGBTQ+ community fought back against brutality and harassment, the uprising marks a change in discourse surrounding LGBTQ+ activism and ignited the modern pride movement.
