Jordan Walker hit his seventh home run of the season on Apr. 12 during the St. Louis Cardinals’ 9-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Busch Stadium.
Walker’s performance matters because it puts him in sole possession of the Major League home run lead and extends his hitting streak to eight games, highlighting a strong start to his season.
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said after Walker’s fifth home run, “My hope is I can answer this question every day. I have no problem with that.” With another homer on Sunday, Marmol is likely to continue fielding questions about Walker’s power surge.
In Sunday’s game, Walker hit a Statcast-projected 432-foot home run off Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello in his first plate appearance. This achievement makes him only the fourth player in Cardinals history to record at least seven homers in the team’s first 15 games, joining Mark McGwire (1998), Scott Rolen (2004), and Albert Pujols (2006).
Initially known for hitting well against left-handed pitchers this season, Walker’s latest homer was his fourth of 2026 against right-handed pitching. The sequence leading up to the home run included a sinker followed by a cutter from Bello that ended up over the middle of the plate—an opportunity Walker did not miss.
