“The High School Art Exhibition is a showcase of the artistic talents of our region’s high school students and the dedication of their teachers,” said Jim Phillips, senior curator of the Crisp Museum. “This exhibition, for many students, is an opportunity to challenge themselves and show the public their talents.”

The exhibition, which is sponsored by Saint Francis Healthcare, will be on display Feb. 12 and run until March 12 with the goal of highlighting the talent of local students and young artists. The exhibit will be open to Grades 11 and 12 for students residing in southeast Missouri as well as southern Illinois.

Bradley Phillips, professor of photography and new media in the Department of Art and Design at Southeast Missouri State University, has been selected as this year’s juror. Phillips is a photographic artist and educator originally from the Greater Los Angeles area. He has had his work exhibited nationally and internationally, and has been on the covers of books, literary journals, and magazines.

“I believe that this exhibit will have a significant impact on both the University and the students,” said Phillips. “Participating students will gain a better understanding of what to expect when they attend Southeast Missouri State University and the quality of education they can expect to receive if they choose to study here. I am excited to be a part of this event and look forward to seeing the outstanding work of prospective students.”

The award reception will be held Feb. 12, 2023, at 2 p.m. with awards presented at 3 p.m. Awards will be given for first, second and third in the categories of sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, graphic design, mixed media, photography, fibers, digital art, drawing and painting.

“The 45th Annual High School Art Exhibition is, in my opinion, our best attended exhibition,” said Jim Phillips. “For many community members this is the first time they have been to the Museum, so we are honored and thrilled to be hosting this exhibition.”
