St. Louis CITY SC lost 3-2 to Houston Dynamo on Saturday night at Energizer Park after nearly erasing a three-goal deficit late in the match. Houston took the lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Ezequiel Ponce and maintained their advantage through halftime. The Dynamo added two more goals in the second half, including an own goal by St. Louis defender Henry Kessler in the 50th minute and a strike from Duane Holmes in the 72nd.

St. Louis responded late, with Eduard Löwen scoring his fifth goal of the season in the 86th minute. Mykhi Joyner, a Homegrown forward, scored his first MLS goal three minutes later, becoming only the second Homegrown player in club history to score for CITY SC, following Miguel Perez. Despite pressing for an equalizer during stoppage time, St. Louis could not find another goal.

Several players contributed notable performances. Simon Becher recorded his second assist of the season, while Chris Durkin tallied his first assist and Marcel Hartel registered his second consecutive match with an assist. Hartel has now contributed to three goals over CITY SC’s last three games.

The match saw both teams commit 14 fouls each, with St. Louis taking 13 shots (four on target) and earning 11 corner kicks compared to Houston’s eight shots (three on target) and three corners.

Eduard Löwen received a caution in the first half, while Alfredo Morales was also booked for St. Louis after halftime.

St. Louis CITY SC will continue their homestand next weekend when they host FC Dallas on Saturday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. CT.
