St. Louis CITY SC faced a narrow defeat against Real Salt Lake, ending the match with a 3-2 scoreline at America First Field on Saturday night. Real Salt Lake took an early lead with a goal in the sixth minute and extended their advantage just before halftime. St. Louis CITY SC responded in the second half with João Klauss scoring in the 51st minute, but RSL quickly regained their two-goal lead in the 64th minute through an own goal by Josh Yaro. Yaro redeemed himself later by scoring his second career MLS goal to bring the score to 3-2. Despite their efforts, St. Louis could not find an equalizer.

João Klauss’s goal marked his seventh of the season, while Marcel Hartel provided two assists during the match. Jaziel Orozco made his debut for CITY SC against his former club, and Tyson Pearce also made his first MLS appearance as a substitute.

The match saw Noel Caliskan open the scoring for RSL with a right-footed shot from outside the box. Diogo Goncalves added another for RSL just before halftime, assisted by William Agada and Justen Glad. After Klauss’s header brought St. Louis back into contention, an own goal by Josh Yaro increased RSL’s lead once more before Yaro scored again to reduce the deficit.

Both teams were active offensively, with St. Louis taking 17 shots compared to Real Salt Lake’s 15. Each team managed six shots on target.

St. Louis CITY SC will return home to face Portland Timbers at Energizer Park on Sunday, July 13.
