St Louis CITY2 will play their final regular season match of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro campaign against Portland Timbers2 on Sunday afternoon at Providence Park. The game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. CT and will be available for streaming on MLS Season Pass through Apple TV.

In their most recent match, CITY2 hosted LAFC2 and finished regulation tied at 1-1. Mykhi Joyner scored a penalty in stoppage time to even the score. The team then secured a shootout win, 4-2, with Christian Olivares making a key save and Emil Jääskeläinen converting the decisive kick. “Mykhi Joyner scored from the penalty spot in the final minute of second half stoppage time to tie it at one goal apiece. Christian Olivares came up huge in the shootout, making one save while Emil Jääskeläinen scored the winning kick to give CITY2 the extra two points.” As a result, CITY2 clinched the top seed in MLS NEXT Pro, ensuring that all four playoff rounds would be played at Energizer Park if they continue advancing.

CITY2 has shown strong performance at home this season, going unbeaten in their last eleven matches at Energizer Park and posting an overall home record of 8-1-5. They have scored 29 goals and allowed only 11 on their home field this year. Their away record has also been notable; CITY2 has not lost an away match since May 11 and holds a 9-3-1 record on the road.

The upcoming fixture marks the last meeting between CITY2 and Portland this season. Their previous encounter was on May 23 at Energizer Park, where CITY2 won 6-3. That match featured four goals by Mykhi Joyner—the first time any player has achieved such a feat for the club—and two goals by Brendan McSorley, marking his third career brace.

Portland Timbers2 have been eliminated from playoff contention but recently won against Austin FC II. Currently sitting in eleventh place in the Western Conference with a record of 9-12-6, Timbers2 have secured five home victories this year at Providence Park. Forward Gage Guerra leads Portland with eleven goals this season, while Kyle Linhares tops assists for the team with five.
