St Louis CITY2 secured a 3-1 victory over North Texas SC at Choctaw Stadium on Saturday night, marking their fifteenth win of the season. The team held North Texas scoreless in the first half and opened the scoring just before halftime with a goal from Mykhi Joyner, assisted by Tyson Pearce.

North Texas equalized early in the second half through Aaron Essel, but Brendan McSorley quickly restored CITY2’s lead two minutes later with a goal set up by Emil Jääskeläinen. In stoppage time, Matteo Kidd added a third goal for St Louis to confirm the win.

Following this result, St Louis CITY2 has extended its unbeaten streak to 13 matches and remains at the top of the MLS NEXT Pro overall standings with 51 points. The team will return home to Energizer Park for their next match against Sporting Kansas City II on Sunday, August 24.

“Mykhi Joyner notched his fourteenth goal of the season and second in back-to-back matches,” according to postgame notes provided by the club. “Joyner has contributed to 17 goals this season for CITY2 (14 goals, three assists). Brendan McSorley scored his eighth goal of the season and is now one goal shy of matching his 2024 tally (9). Matteo Kidd bagged his sixth goal of the season. Tyson Pearce recorded his second assist of the season. Emil Jääskeläinen tallied his team-leading seventh assist of the season and has now recorded assists in back-to-back matches.”

Five players have scored six or more goals for CITY2 this year: Miguel Perez, Emil Jääskeläinen, Matteo Kidd, Brendan McSorley, and Mykhi Joyner. Interim head coach John Hackworth continues an unbeaten run that now stands at 11 matches since he took over on June 4.

“St Louis has extended their unbeaten run to 13 consecutive matches and earned their fifteenth win of the season,” noted club officials. “With tonight’s victory, St Louis won the regular season series against North Texas SC.”

The match featured several cautions for both teams and was played under mostly sunny conditions with temperatures reaching 89 degrees.
