Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado has returned to the lineup after being on the 10-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain. Arenado had been sidelined since July 30. The team made room for his return by optioning infielder José Fermín to Triple-A Memphis.

Arenado is set to play third base and bat sixth in Monday’s game against the Reds. The Cardinals are currently four games behind the Mets for the National League’s No. 3 Wild Card spot, with several teams including the Giants, Reds, and D-backs ahead of them in the standings.

During his rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Springfield, Arenado played four games—two as designated hitter and two at third base—and recorded one hit in thirteen at-bats with three strikeouts.

This season, Arenado has appeared in 96 games and holds a .235 batting average, a .294 on-base percentage, and a .366 slugging percentage. He has contributed 10 home runs, 15 doubles, and 43 RBIs.
