JJ Wetherholt, the top prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals, continued his strong performance at Triple-A Memphis by hitting his seventh home run in 13 games and driving in three runs. Wetherholt led off the game with a home run on the second pitch and added two more RBIs with a single and a sacrifice fly. He has recorded hits in 14 of 17 games this month and holds a 1.172 OPS over his first 12 games at Triple-A.
Other notable performances across Minor League Baseball included Jhostynxon Garcia of Worcester, who homered and matched his career high with five RBIs, extending his hitting streak to six games. Walker Jenkins of Wichita broke out of a slump by hitting his third Double-A homer, while Zyhir Hope of Great Lakes hit his second consecutive home run.
On the pitching side, Hurston Waldrep finished July with seven scoreless innings for Gwinnett, lowering his ERA to its lowest point since early in the season. Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz delivered six shutout innings for Somerset, continuing a stretch where he has posted a 1.32 ERA since June 1.
