Liam Doyle, a recent first-round draft pick by the St. Louis Cardinals, made his Double-A debut for Springfield, pitching two scoreless innings. Doyle, who was selected fifth overall in this year's MLB Draft, previously made his first professional appearance at Single-A Palm Beach last week. In his Double-A outing, he allowed two hits but did not issue any walks and struck out three batters. He threw 20 strikes out of 30 pitches and retired the first four hitters before working through trouble in his second inning.
Other prospects also had notable performances across various Minor League levels. Zyhir Hope of the Tulsa Drillers (Los Angeles Dodgers organization) had a three-hit game with four RBIs and a stolen base, bringing his season total to 27 steals. Leo De Vries from Midland (Oakland Athletics) hit another home run and collected two doubles for his second straight three-hit game.
Bryce Eldridge of Sacramento (San Francisco Giants) hit his 25th home run of the season and has recorded hits in nine of his last eleven games. Jett Williams from Syracuse (New York Mets) homered for the fifteenth time this year and reached base three times during the game.
Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz from Somerset (New York Yankees) became the new strikeout leader in Minor League Baseball with seven more punchouts, bringing him to 173 on the season. Tre' Morgan from Durham (Tampa Bay Rays) continued a strong September with hits in both games of a doubleheader, including another home run.
The performances highlight several top prospects making progress at higher levels as they advance through their respective organizations.
