The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the promotion of JJ Wetherholt, a top prospect, to their Triple-A affiliate in Memphis. This decision was made public by the club on Monday.

JJ Wetherholt, 22 years old, has been newly ranked as the No. 19 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline. He was selected as the seventh overall pick in last season's draft after playing three college seasons at West Virginia University. During his sophomore year there, he achieved a Division I batting title with an impressive .449 average.

This promotion follows Wetherholt's successful stint at Double-A Springfield this season, where he maintained a .300 batting average alongside seven home runs and 14 stolen bases over 62 games. His performance also included an OPS of .891. Since starting his professional career at Single-A Palm Beach last season, Wetherholt has posted a slash line of .299/.419/.445 across 401 Minor League plate appearances.

According to the team's statement: "SS/2B JJ Wetherholt has been promoted to Triple-A Memphis."

His stats from Springfield show him slashing .300/.425/.466 with 22 extra-base hits, 34 RBIs, and leading the Texas League in on-base percentage (OBP) and OPS.

Wetherholt's defensive capabilities are notable; he has experience playing both second base and shortstop during his career. This season alone saw him play primarily as a shortstop for 36 games while also covering second base for 17 games and taking on designated hitter duties nine times.
