On Thursday night, several young prospects made notable impacts across Minor League Baseball. Among the highlights was a strong pitching performance by Quinn Mathews of the Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Mathews, ranked as the Cardinals’ No. 2 prospect and No. 53 overall in MLB’s rankings, pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only two singles and striking out nine batters. He matched his season high for strikeouts and generated 21 swings-and-misses over 86 pitches. Only one baserunner reached second base against him during the outing. Over his past seven starts, Mathews has posted a 2.35 ERA.

“Mathews' second start of August was arguably his best performance of the season. The southpaw allowed two singles over seven scoreless frames and equaled a season high with nine strikeouts for Triple-A Memphis. Only one baserunner reached second base against Mathews, who generated 21 swings-and-misses during his 86-pitch outing. The 24-year-old has a 2.35 ERA over his past seven starts.”

Other top prospects also stood out on Thursday:

- Jesús Made (Milwaukee Brewers) became the youngest player to hit a home run in the Midwest League this season at age 18 and recorded four RBIs for High-A Wisconsin.

- Konnor Griffin (Pittsburgh Pirates), MLB’s No. 1 prospect, extended his hitting streak to six games with his 15th home run and is now batting .332/.411/.532 across two Minor League levels.

- Charlie Condon (Colorado Rockies) continued his strong August with three hits for Double-A Hartford after struggling earlier in the season.

- Jarlin Susana (Washington Nationals) struck out six batters in his return to Double-A Harrisburg following injury rehab.

- Hunter Barco (Pittsburgh Pirates) delivered four scoreless innings for Triple-A Indianapolis.

- Robby Snelling (Miami Marlins) struck out eleven over six shutout innings for Jacksonville, maintaining an ERA of 1.63 through five Triple-A starts.

- David Shields (Kansas City Royals) retired twelve straight batters and did not allow an earned run for Single-A Columbia; he holds a season ERA of 1.68.

- Nelson Rada (Los Angeles Angels), not yet twenty years old, hit his first Triple-A home run as part of a three-hit game for Salt Lake.

The performances reflect ongoing development among top minor league prospects from several organizations.
