Catcher Leonardo Bernal of the St. Louis Cardinals organization has been named one of the 2025 Minor League Gold Glove Award winners, as announced by Rawlings and Minor League Baseball on Sunday. Bernal, ranked No. 92 among MLB prospects and No. 4 in the Cardinals system, is recognized for his defensive performance behind the plate this season.
Bernal distinguished himself with a caught-stealing rate of 39 percent, throwing out 27 of 69 attempted basestealers. This was the second-best mark among Double-A catchers. The switch-hitting catcher continued to improve his blocking and framing skills, solidifying his reputation as one of the top defensive throwers in Minor League Baseball.
The list of Gold Glove winners also includes Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin (the top overall prospect), Marlins pitcher Robby Snelling (MLB No. 51), and six other players from various organizations who are ranked within their teams’ Top 30 lists.
Griffin posted a .980 fielding percentage at shortstop with only seven errors over 89 games during his debut season across three minor league levels. Snelling did not commit an error in 136 innings pitched at Triple-A for Miami and limited opposing basestealers to a success rate of just 57 percent.
Other recipients include Tre' Morgan (first base, Durham), Kyle DeBarge (second base, Cedar Rapids), Pedro Ramirez (third base, Knoxville), Luis Lara (outfield, Biloxi), Druw Jones (outfield, Hillsboro), and Homer Bush Jr. (outfield, Montgomery).
This marks consecutive years that a Marlins prospect has received Gold Glove honors at catcher; last year’s winner was Joe Mack.
The full list of winners highlights strong defensive performances across multiple positions throughout Minor League Baseball in the 2025 season.
