The National League (NL) emerged victorious in the 2025 All-Star Game, which ended in an unprecedented home run swing-off at Truist Park, Atlanta. Phillies' Kyle Schwarber secured the win for the NL by hitting three home runs during the swing-off, a new format introduced as part of the collective bargaining agreement. This victory marked only the second win for the NL in the last 12 Midsummer Classics.
"It was awesome," Schwarber said. "The guys were really into it. They were yelling, screaming, cheering me on every swing."
The game concluded with a 7-6 score after both leagues tied at 6-6 following nine innings. The swing-off involved six players from each league trying to hit as many home runs as possible within their allotted swings.
AL manager Aaron Boone and NL skipper Dave Roberts each selected three players to receive three swings apiece. Boone expressed excitement about the new format: "I got to say, you know, it was pretty exciting."
The match also featured tributes to Hank Aaron's famous 715th homer and innovations such as the automated ball-strike challenge system. Players wore their regular-season uniforms and participated in mic'd-up interactions throughout the game.
Commissioner Rob Manfred had handpicked Clayton Kershaw for his 11th All-Star selection as a “Legend Pick.” Dodgers star Freddie Freeman returned to his Atlanta roots during this traditional aspect of the event.
NL Manager Dave Roberts commented on breaking their losing streak against AL: “We finally beat these guys,” he said.
