St Louis CITY2 continued their impressive run by extending their unbeaten streak to nine games. They secured a 4-2 victory in a penalty shootout against Ventura County FC on Wednesday night at Energizer Park. The match saw VCFC take the lead in the 33rd minute with a goal from Tommy Musto, maintaining that advantage through halftime.
CITY2 responded in the second half when Matteo Kidd scored his fifth goal of the season in the 57th minute, assisted by Brendan McSorley, who notched his sixth assist of the year. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Christian Olivares was instrumental with two key saves, and Cam Cilley converted the decisive penalty for St Louis.
Following this win, CITY2 remains atop the league standings with 40 points. They will enjoy a bye weekend before facing Minnesota United FC 2 on Sunday, July 27, at Energizer Park.
The match also featured several notable performances and milestones: Emiliano Chavez made his first professional start; Stone Marion debuted professionally as a substitute; and Trip Clancy also made his first appearance off the bench.
