DENVER -- Masyn Winn, the St. Louis Cardinals' shortstop, is expressing dissatisfaction with his offensive performance this season. Despite respectable statistics for a 23-year-old player still adapting to the demands of a 162-game season, Winn believes he has not reached his full potential as a hitter.

Winn's current season slash line stands at .269/.326/.389, closely mirroring his rookie year in 2024. His strikeout and whiff rates have remained low, but his walk rate is yet to impress. He has demonstrated power with 15 home runs and 32 doubles last year and seven homers and 20 doubles this season before Tuesday's game.

"I'm definitely below where I want to be and below where I thought I was going to be," said Winn. He remains determined to improve his offensive contributions while acknowledging that defensively he has performed well.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol sees potential in Winn's batting skills, suggesting he could contend for a batting title in the future. "I think this is a guy who could be at the top of the league in batting titles," Marmol stated.

Winn's confidence in his hitting abilities persists despite recent struggles. He noted a drop in performance when behind in counts, with his average falling from .281 last year to .204 this season under such circumstances. Additionally, against left-handed pitchers, his home run count decreased from nine in 2024 to one so far this year.

"I think I'm a great hitter," Winn commented after achieving three hits on Monday and starting the second half with an impressive .529 average over four games before Tuesday.

Marmol believes growth will come from refining Winn's approach at the plate: "A full commitment...will lead to what’s possible for him."

Despite challenges faced during the current season due partly to seeking more powerful hits rather than focusing solely on contact hitting strategies favored by some within the organization—according sources close—the young athlete remains committed toward achieving success through slugging efforts: "They pay you [to] slug...and walk," remarked confidently about future goals while aiming higher aspirations ahead moving forward beyond present difficulties encountered thus far throughout ongoing campaign efforts undertaken alongside teammates collectively striving together toward greater achievements sought ultimately long-term ambitions pursued earnestly always without hesitation ever given up upon easily whatsoever under any circumstances encountered along way journey traveled continuously onward indefinitely until reaching desired destination eventually attained finally someday hopefully sooner later realized fully accomplished completely satisfactorily achieved overall entirely fulfilled conclusively altogether successfully completed entirely satisfactory manner ideally optimally efficiently effectively productively beneficially positively constructively
