A series of significant trades have taken place across Major League Baseball as teams approach the 2025 Trade Deadline, set for July 31 at 6 p.m. ET. The focus has been on deals made since the All-Star break, with several high-profile players changing teams in efforts to strengthen rosters for the playoff push.
The San Diego Padres made a notable move by acquiring right-handed pitcher Mason Miller and left-hander JP Sears from the Oakland Athletics. In exchange, the A's received shortstop Leo De Vries—ranked as MLB Pipeline's No. 3 overall prospect—along with pitchers Braden Nett, Henry Baez, and Eduarniel Nuñez. Miller is known for his velocity and may transition back to a starting role, while Sears brings durability to San Diego’s pitching staff.
The Houston Astros completed a major transaction by bringing back shortstop Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins. Correa agreed to waive his no-trade clause to return to Houston, where he is expected to play third base due to an injury to Isaac Paredes. Astros general manager commented on Correa’s track record: "Correa struggled for the Twins this season (92 OPS+), but he is a lifetime .275/.352/.465 hitter (124 OPS+) with a history of thriving under the bright lights of October."
Other prominent moves include the Seattle Mariners reacquiring third baseman Eugenio Suárez from the Arizona Diamondbacks and first baseman Josh Naylor from Arizona as well. The Philadelphia Phillies added reliever Jhoan Duran from Minnesota and outfielder Harrison Bader in separate trades with the Twins.
The New York Yankees addressed bullpen concerns by trading for David Bednar from Pittsburgh after closer Devin Williams’ struggles and further strengthened their infield depth by acquiring Ryan McMahon from Colorado and Amed Rosario from Washington.
In another deal involving St. Louis, the Mets acquired right-handed pitcher Ryan Helsley from the Cardinals in exchange for infielder Jesus Baez and pitchers Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt. Helsley had shown recent improvement with just one earned run allowed over his final 11 appearances for St. Louis.
Additional transactions saw Shane Bieber move to Toronto, Merrill Kelly join Texas, Cedric Mullins head to New York (Mets), Ke'Bryan Hayes go to Cincinnati, Michael Soroka arrive in Chicago (Cubs), Seranthony Domínguez land in Toronto’s bullpen, Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak bolster Detroit’s rotation, among others.
Several smaller deals also occurred as teams look for depth or future assets before the deadline passes.
