St Louis CITY2 secured a 3-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City II, marking their eighth shutout of the season and extending their unbeaten streak to 14 matches. The match opened with an own goal by Maouloune Goumballe of Kansas City in the 21st minute. Miguel Perez scored twice for CITY2, once in the 34th minute with a header and again in the 78th minute with a right-footed shot, achieving his first professional brace.
Goalkeeper Lucas McPartlin made his professional debut and recorded his first career shutout. Brendan McSorley contributed two assists, bringing his season total to eight, which leads the team and ranks third overall in MLS NEXT Pro. Matteo Kidd also added two assists during the match.
With this win, St Louis CITY2 completed their 23rd match of the season and matched their goal tally from last year at 53 goals. Interim head coach John Hackworth has led the team to a 12-match unbeaten run since taking over on June 4. The squad currently sits atop the MLS NEXT Pro overall standings with 54 points and 16 wins.
