The 2025 MLB Trade Deadline saw significant movement among top prospects, with 63 players ranked in their organizations’ Top 30 lists changing teams between last Friday and the deadline at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday. Three of these prospects were also listed in MLB’s Top 100 overall rankings.

Among the notable trades, Leo De Vries, a shortstop ranked No. 1 for the Athletics and No. 3 overall by MLB, was acquired from the Padres as part of the Mason Miller/JP Sears trade. De Vries, who signed for $4.2 million in January 2024, has progressed to High-A at age 18 and is recognized for his athleticism and potential as a five-tool player.

Eduardo Tait, a catcher now ranked No. 4 in the Twins system and No. 56 overall, joined Minnesota from the Phillies in exchange for Jhoan Duran. Tait is known for his power at the plate and is considered a top catching prospect despite still developing defensively.

Mick Abel, a right-handed pitcher who was previously Philadelphia’s first-round pick in 2020, also moved to Minnesota in the Duran deal after making six Major League starts for the Phillies this season.

Other significant moves included Khal Stephen going to Cleveland from Toronto as part of the Shane Bieber trade and Tyler Locklear heading to Arizona from Seattle following Eugenio Suárez’s move.

For St. Louis Cardinals fans, Jesus Baez stands out among those traded at this year’s deadline. Baez was acquired from the Mets in exchange for Ryan Helsley and is now ranked as the Cardinals’ No. 6 prospect. In 2024, Baez improved his contact rates and showed strong exit velocities before an injury ended his season early. He played multiple positions but is expected to settle at third base due to his arm strength.

The list of top-25 prospects traded also includes Adam Serwinowski (Dodgers), Blade Tidwell (Giants), Henry Baez (Athletics), Mitch Bratt (D-backs), Drew Gilbert (Giants), Sean Paul Liñan (Nationals), Christian Franklin (Nationals), David Hagaman (D-backs), and Ashton Izzi (D-backs).

The deadline activity reflects teams’ efforts to balance immediate roster needs with long-term development by exchanging established players for high-upside prospects across multiple organizations.
