Quinn Mathews, the St. Louis Cardinals’ No. 2 prospect and ranked No. 53 overall by MLB, delivered a strong performance for Triple-A Memphis, striking out nine batters in his longest outing of the season. The left-hander pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs or fewer for the ninth time in his last 11 starts since returning from the injured list. Since May 31, Mathews has posted a 3.63 ERA with 56 strikeouts over 44 2/3 innings.
Other top prospects across Minor League Baseball also made notable contributions as August began. Braden Montgomery hit his first Double-A home run for Birmingham and added a single later in the game. Montgomery is competing at his third Minor League level during his professional debut season and has an .808 OPS with 36 extra-base hits and 58 RBIs over 91 games.
Jarlin Susana made his third rehab start for High-A Wilmington after recovering from a UCL sprain suffered in May. He allowed one hit and struck out six over four scoreless innings, retiring 11 of the 12 batters he faced.
Trey Yesavage recorded nine strikeouts in four innings for Double-A New Hampshire, marking his highest total since being promoted to that level. Over his past two starts spanning eight innings, Yesavage has allowed only one run with no walks and tallied fourteen strikeouts.
Josue Briceño had a productive game following his promotion to Double-A Erie by hitting two home runs and reaching base three times in five plate appearances. This season, Briceño is batting .279/.396/.550 with seventeen homers and sixty-six RBIs over seventy games.
Robby Snelling continued to impress at Triple-A Jacksonville by pitching six innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts while lowering his ERA to 2.08 across four starts at this level.
Joe Mack supported Snelling both behind the plate and offensively by reaching base five times, collecting four hits—including his thirteenth home run of the year—and raising his OPS back above .800.
Jhostynxon Garcia finished a doubleheader for Triple-A Worcester with three extra-base hits including his first grand slam as a professional player. Garcia now holds an OPS of .906 since July 1st and is slashing .283/.361/.497 this season across two Minor League levels.
Brody Hopkins matched a career high with ten strikeouts over seven scoreless innings for Double-A Montgomery while lowering his ERA to just above three through twenty starts this year.
Kendall George reached base five times atop High-A Great Lakes’ lineup and stole five bases in one game, bringing him to sixty-three steals on the season—second most among all Minor Leaguers.
