In the third week of the Arizona Fall League, several prospects delivered notable performances, including a standout showing from St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Darlin Saladin.
Saladin, 22, pitched three scoreless innings in relief for Glendale, striking out six batters and allowing only two hits. He is among just four qualified pitchers in the league who have not given up a run this fall. In total, Saladin has thrown seven scoreless innings with ten strikeouts.
Other players also made an impact during the week. Kevin McGonigle of Scottsdale (Detroit Tigers organization) recorded a .500 batting average over 16 at-bats with two home runs and four RBIs. Josh Adamczewski of Surprise (Milwaukee Brewers) hit .429 with two home runs and six RBIs while adjusting to playing more outfield positions.
Jack Hurley from Salt River (Arizona Diamondbacks) had five hits in 13 at-bats, including two home runs and eight RBIs—most of which came during one game where he drove in eight runs. Sam Antonacci of Glendale (Chicago White Sox) reached base 13 times in 17 plate appearances and stole five bases during the week.
Leo Balcazar from Peoria (Cincinnati Reds) became the first player this fall to reach 20 hits after a four-hit performance on Saturday night. James Hicks of Scottsdale (Houston Astros) continued his streak without allowing a run over 11 innings pitched across three outings, striking out six batters in his latest appearance.
Karson Milbrandt from Mesa (Miami Marlins) struck out seven hitters over 2 2/3 innings but has allowed five earned runs through three games while collecting an impressive total of 18 strikeouts in just over nine innings.
The Arizona Fall League continues to showcase emerging talent as prospects like Saladin demonstrate their potential for future contributions at higher levels.
